I Am, You Are: A Call to Worship

Pastoral Prayer

I have mentioned a number of times that one key element of worship at Grace Fellowship Church is the Call to Worship. This call sometimes involves reading a passage of scripture, but other times combines several texts into a responsive or back-and-forth format. Here’s an example that might bless you this morning as you prepare to worship. It contrasts who we are with who God is and, in that way, reminds us that God alone is worthy of our worship.

I am guilty of many sins, but…
You, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you. (Psalm 86:5)

I am forever looking for joy in all the wrong places, but…
You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16:11)

I am plagued by many troubles and many trials, but…
You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble (Psalm 32:7); You are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. (Psalm 23:4)

I am prone to getting myself stuck in dead ends and broken situations, but…
You are the God who works wonders… (Psalm 77:14); You are great and do wondrous things… (Psalm 86:10); You, O Lord, are my hope… (Psalm 71:5)

I am alone in this world, but…
You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation. (Psalm 89:26); You are my help and my deliverer… (Psalm 40:17)

I am quick to lose hope and give up, but…
You, O LORD, are most high over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods. (Psalm 97:9); You are good and do good… (Psalm 119:68); You are righteous, O LORD… (Psalm 119:137); You are my God… (Psalm 118:28)

Therefore, O God, my God; I seek you earnestly; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. (Psalm 63:1); Teach me to do your will, for you are my God!

(Psalm 143:10)

Are You Binding the Wound or Aggravating It?

One of the privileges we have as Christians is the privilege of caring for one another—of blessing one another in our difficulties and comforting one another in our sorrows. In such “one another” ministry we represent God and extend love and mercy on his behalf. This is a precious and sacred ministry that falls to…

The pictures quickly made their way around the world—pictures of an aircraft lying upside down in the snow just beyond runway 23 at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. On February 17, Delta flight 4819 landed hard, shearing off the right wing and flipping over before finally sliding to a stop. Remarkably, despite the crash and subsequent…
