A La Carte (April 6)

It has been a slow couple of days for Kindle deals. I did, though, find a few that may be of interest to you.

The Other Woman

Sometimes the other woman is not a woman at all. “I don’t believe I’ve ever read an entire chapter or listened to an entire session by a Christian on strategies for avoiding having an affair with work. Why is that? Why, for people who believe that husbands ought to sacrifice themselves for their wives as Jesus Christ sacrificed himself for his Bride, is the threat of all-consuming careerism not taken more seriously?”

In Defense of Second-Class Missionaries

This is well worth the read. “I’m all about strategy in missions, and it’s important for churches to be careful in their vetting process of potential missionaries. But can we expand our idea of what strategy means? Missionaries, as an extension of the Church, must function as the Body of Christ.”

I Went to Amazon’s Physical Bookstore And…

Here are some interesting observations at one of Amazon’s physical bookstores.

The Most Diverse City in the World

“Toronto has long been recognized as one of the most multicultural cities in the world, with over 230 different nationalities within Ontario’s capital city. While locals and tourists alike have bore witness to this, BBC has made it official with their recent announcement on BBC Radio, naming Toronto as the most diverse city in the world.”

Is the F-35 a Trillion-Dollar Mistake?

I continue to find myself fascinating with the ridiculous and disastrous F-35 program. This time Bloomberg has written a lengthy article on it.

Can a Christian Lose Salvation? (Video)

Yesterday two seminaries released videos answering this question, the first by Derek Thomas (on behalf of RTS) and the second by Thomas Schreiner (on behalf of SBTS).

10 Things Sexual Assault Victims Want You to Know

This is tough to read. But it’s so important to understand.

Mike Pence, “Truth’s Table” and Fencing the Law

Richard Phillips makes some great observations here. “Apparently, the leftist media has not noticed how sexual sin has destroyed the American family, wreaking untold ruin to marriages and causing heartbreak to children whose homes are broken. The same media that savaged President Trump (rightly) for his sexual offenses cannot stomach Mike Pence taking prudent steps to avoid the same.”

Flashback: The Bestsellers: The Purpose Driven Life

Here’s a look at the book that remains the bestselling hardcover non-fiction book in history and is the second most translated book after the Bible.

Ignorance of the Scripture is the root of all error and makes a man helpless in the hand of the devil.

  • To Be a Woman

    To Be a Woman

I sometimes wonder what future generations will make of the modern West here in the early decades of the 21st century. I sometimes wonder what they will think of us when they discover that one of the defining questions of our age is also one of the most straightforward: What is a woman? Yet an…
